The camino does not seem crowded like I expected it would be. Normally about 400 pilgrims start out from St. Jean Pied de Port each day. Today I heard that it is 30-40. About half of those walking are Spanish followed by French/Americans, and then the rest of Europe. I often walk alone which IContinue reading “THE CAST OF CHARACTERS”

WHAT WAS I THINKING?
So I was going to wax on about whether I’m starting my camino or just continuing my camino from two years ago or whether my Camino started at birth. Then I thought…who gives a tahoodle about that? I had a difficult time getting out of the US and my time in England with my friendContinue reading “WHAT WAS I THINKING?”
GRATITUDE
I have begun my second camino and I am grateful. I was supposed to leave on my trip on Sunday and was unable to fly because my covid test results came after the 48 hour deadline. I ended up getting 2 covid tests and both are negative. I’m so grateful. My flight to Washington DCContinue reading “GRATITUDE”
I HAVE RESERVATIONS
I have reservations. No, wait…I have no reservations. But I have reservations. OK, I have hotel & albergue reservations AND no reservations about the camino this year 😉 Last year at this time despite having had to cancel a trip to see Lady Gaga perform and a trip to Paris and England to visit myContinue reading “I HAVE RESERVATIONS”
GRIEF
There’s a story that I’ve told to friends about prayer and God and my youngest daughter. It goes something like this… After giving birth to my two older daughters I had a strong sense that our family was not quite complete. I wanted just one more child. And I had a bit of a deadline.Continue reading “GRIEF”
I’M GOING TO WALK THE CAMINO DE SANTIAGO
February 2019 I’m going to walk the Camino de Santiago and today I’m starting my blog about it. Actually I started this blog in my head about six month ago, but today I am finally putting words to paper (screen?). How did I decide to do this? Most people answer this question by saying theyContinue reading “I’M GOING TO WALK THE CAMINO DE SANTIAGO”
DO YOU REMEMBER…?
Tonight over dinner we talked about the Camino. We played a game I call “Do you remember…? Do you remember the town where we had dinner with Wynn & Roberta? Do you remember the young man who fell and screamed a 4 letter word and how I ran to help him? Do you remember theContinue reading “DO YOU REMEMBER…?”
WHY ARE THEY CALLED PILGRIMS?
This question began its infestation in my brain shortly before Halloween. What I’m about to say is sacrilege but I don’t really like Halloween. I’m uncomfortable wearing costumes and while I love the little kids who come to trick or treat, the older ones…you know who I’m talking about…the teenagers dressed as a hobo orContinue reading “WHY ARE THEY CALLED PILGRIMS?”
SIX DAYS TO SANTIAGO
Ok, it’s really only 5 days to the one year anniversary of my arrival in Santiago de Compostela. I had the idea to write this post yesterday and I liked the title and thought that it fit the topic. OK and I‘m a big fan of alliteration. It’s hard to explain how much the CaminoContinue reading “SIX DAYS TO SANTIAGO”
DAY 9
I am beginning to see the walking, or maybe hobbling, wounded. Knee and ankle braces are appearing. Road rash is peeking out from beneath bandages. One woman has her wrist and one finger bandaged up. She took a bad fall back in Roncevalles, but she’s still moving. This morning we saw a man with hisContinue reading “DAY 9”
